Series synopsis[ edit ] King of the Hill is set in the fictional small town of Arlen, Texas. The show centers around the Hill family, whose head is the ever-responsible, hard-working, loyal, disciplined, and honest Hank Hill voiced by Mike Judge. The pun title refers to Hank as the head of the family as well as metaphorically to the children’s game King of the Hill. Hank is employed as an assistant manager at Strickland Propane, selling ” propane and propane accessories”. He is very traditional and moral, and he takes exceptionally good care of his dog, Ladybird, which he treats, more often than not, as a member of the family and as a human. Her overconfidence and trusting nature often leads her into getting involved in complex schemes that Peggy does not recognize as criminal or irresponsible until it is too late. Hank and Peggy’s only child, Bobby Hill voiced by Pamela Adlon , is a husky pre-pubescent boy who is generally friendly and well-liked, but not very bright, and often prone to making bad decisions.
And like anyone else, aspies, as they are fondly referred to, certainly are capable and deserving of love and affection, even romance. These differences manifest themselves in different ways, but the key thing to understand is that aspies are not necessarily disabled or impaired, and can function quite well in society, regardless of difficulties. I Remember When… Princess graduated from college earlier this year, and is taking her second major.
Romance is a learned behaviour for most aspies. It just means they have to understand what is sweet and romantic, and why it is, through patient explanation and reasoning.

Melissa Orlov, a leading marriage consultant and ADHD researcher, highlights the issues faced by men who suffer with ADHD and their inability to concentrate on a single task for any length of time. Men who suffer from ADHD are often constantly focused on something else, which can make it difficult to maintain stable relationships with their partner and other people.
Orlov also highlights how impulsivity often manifests in men who suffer from ADHD. Impulsivity in men with ADHD can make them seem thoughtless and rude, blurting out something quite hurtful without appreciating or appearing to care about the consequences. This can also lead to financial problems, as men with ADHD often spend money on impulse purchases rather than other, more important financial commitments.

This article explores some of those difficulties as they apply to romance, love and ADHD. Recently I had a conversation with a client who has a long history of unsuccessful romantic relationships. Over our past few sessions we have explored this pattern, only to discover that the men she most cared for were exciting, handsome, and dreamy, but somehow not very supportive or emotionally available.
On the other hand, she had a variety of long term relationships with men who she referred to as her closest friends. She told me that these men have been there for her for many years and were all extremely supportive and solid in her life. In fact, her best friend, is a man she has known for the past 10 years. This man has provided her with a rich friendship that includes trust, shared values, affection, loyalty and great fun.
When I asked her why she had never dated him, she said that he was not her type. It seems to me that many of us share this same dilemma. Very often, the people we most attract and are attracted to are the ones that provide us the most drama. Often there is a lot of arguing, tension, excitement, longing, passion, and pain, but not a lot of trust, respect, safety, and loyalty. People with ADHD thrive on stimulation and get bored easily. If someone is rock-solid, trust worthy, safe, affectionate and loyal, without all the drama, this can feel boring to the ADHD mind, which is constantly seeking stimulation and excitement.
Love is what we choose to commit ourselves to.
